Gutter Repairs AcrossLondon, Surrey and Sussex.
Overflowing in heavy rain, a wet stripe down the wall, or a run that has started to sag. We find which joint, bracket or outlet is at fault and put that right.
Gutter Repairs in South West London, Surrey and West Sussex.
A gutter has one job: catch what comes off the roof and take it to the downpipe. When it stops doing that, the water goes down the wall instead, and a wall that stays wet is how damp gets inside a house. That is why a small gutter fault is worth sorting early. It is the cheapest job on our list and it prevents some of the most expensive ones.
Most gutter faults are one thing rather than everything. A joint where the seal has gone. A bracket that has pulled out of soft timber and dropped the run out of level. An outlet packed with moss and grit so the water backs up and goes over the front edge. We get up there, find which it is, and fix that.
We will also tell you when it is not worth repairing. If the plastic has gone brittle and chalky and the brackets are pulling out along the whole run, patching one joint just moves the problem along a few feet. In that case we will say so and price the replacement instead.
If it only overflows at one corner, that corner is the problem, not the whole run.
How to Tell You Need It Looked At.
Water Pours Over the Front Edge
Almost always a blockage at the outlet or a run that has lost its fall. It usually shows up in heavy rain first.
A Wet Stripe Down the Wall
A failed joint above it. The wall stays damp long after the rain has stopped, which is the giveaway.
Green Staining or Moss on the Brickwork
Water has been running down that wall for a while. Worth looking up to see where it is coming from.
The Gutter Is Visibly Not Level
Brackets have let go. Left alone the run keeps dropping and eventually pulls away from the fascia altogether.
What the Work Involves.
Leaking Joints
Union brackets and joints where the seal has perished, so water drips steadily down the wall in the same spot every time it rains.
Sagging Runs
Gutters that have dropped out of level because the brackets have pulled out of the fascia behind them. Re-hung to a proper fall.
Blocked Outlets
The opening into the downpipe, packed with moss and grit that has washed off the roof. Cleared out and flushed through.
Cracked Sections
Split lengths and broken corners replaced with matching profile rather than a bead of sealant over the top.
Loose Brackets
Refixed into sound timber. Where the timber is not sound, we say so, because it needs a new fascia, not a longer screw.
Valley and Parapet Gutters
The hidden gutters behind a parapet or between two roof slopes, which back up quietly and put water straight through a ceiling.
Why Two Gutter Repairs Jobs Cost Different Things.
We give a written price for the work we have looked at. Answer three questions for the rough shape of yours.
A two-storey house, one failed joint or bracket, and a fascia that looks sound: that is a repair, not a replacement, and a ladder job rather than a scaffold. We would confirm it from the roof and give you a written price.
Repair, most likely.
We do not quote figures unseen. Every price we give is in writing, for a gutter we have looked at.
How We Reach It
A bungalow off a properly secured ladder and a three-storey terrace needing a scaffold are two different jobs before anyone touches the work itself.
How Much of It There Is
Front only, front and back, or the whole property including the returns. We measure it rather than estimate from the pavement.
What Is Behind the Gutter
If the fascia board has gone soft, the boards have to be replaced too, or the repaired run will pull away exactly like the old one.
Repair or Replace
One failed section is a short job. A run that has reached the end of its life is a replacement. We tell you which it is before you commit to anything.
The Questions We Get Asked About Gutter Repairs.
It depends on how we reach the gutter, how much of the run is affected and whether the fascia behind it is sound. A single failed joint on a bungalow and a full run on a three-storey terrace needing a scaffold are very different jobs. We look at it and give you a written price before any work starts.
Most of the time it is a repair: a joint, a bracket, an outlet or one section. We would rather quote for the repair than sell you a full run you do not need. When the plastic has gone brittle and the brackets are pulling out along the whole length, we will tell you plainly that patching it is not worth your money.
That usually means it is partly blocked rather than fully blocked, or the run has lost its fall. In light rain the water still gets away; in heavy rain it backs up and goes over the front edge. If it always overflows in the same place, that place is where the fault is.
Not always. Short work at low level can often be done from a properly secured ladder. HSE guidance is that sloping roof work needs a proper platform and edge protection at the eaves other than for a few minutes' work, so anything longer or higher needs a platform. We tell you which your job needs before we price it.
Yes, and it is one of the commonest causes we see. Water running down the outside of a wall keeps the brickwork saturated, and saturated brickwork lets moisture through to the inside. Fixing the gutter is usually cheaper than treating what it has caused.
Tell us what you have got when you call. Cast iron, uPVC and aluminium all behave differently and need different repairs, and on older or listed property there may be a reason the original material has to stay. We will talk it through before we quote.
